A dummy ticket for visa purposes should be a genuine flight reservation that matches your intended trip. Consider one only when your application checklist allows a reservation or itinerary. Choose an issued, refundable ticket when the checklist requires paid transport or when you also need a flight you can actually take. Neither choice guarantees a visa.
The practical question is not whether a document looks like an airline ticket. It is whether the document meets the application requirement, stays usable when it may be checked, and leaves you with manageable financial exposure if your plans change.
Start with the application checklist, not the seller’s product name
The Dutch government’s tourism visa checklist asks for a reservation in your name for travel to and from the Schengen area, or other evidence of your travel plans; it says a paid ticket is unnecessary. This is a Netherlands application example, not approval of a particular seller or a rule for every destination.
Find the instructions for your destination, visa category and application location. Read the document requirement alongside your proposed entry and exit dates. If the wording is unclear, ask the responsible consulate or its designated application centre before spending money. A search made in the United States does not establish your citizenship, residence or visa requirements.
Keep the itinerary truthful. Do not edit a PDF to invent a booking, alter a passenger name or make an expired reservation appear current. A polished document cannot replace the underlying booking.
Reservation, issued ticket and boarding pass are different checks
A booking reference identifies a reservation; a ticket number identifies a ticket document. For example, Emirates explains its identifiers as a six-character booking reference and a separate 13-character ticket number. A reference alone is therefore insufficient evidence that the transport has been ticketed. Ask the airline to confirm the current status if the requirement is paid travel.
A boarding pass belongs to the check-in process. Do not treat a reservation-service document as permission to board, and do not assume that a document suitable for an application will later satisfy departure or border checks.
| Option to investigate | When to consider it | Question before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Genuine reservation service | Your checklist allows a reservation and you do not yet want to commit the airfare. | Will this exact booking remain usable for the required check? |
| Direct airline hold | The airline offers an eligible hold and its window fits the application step. | What document is supplied and when does the hold lapse? |
| Issued refundable ticket | You need ticketed transport or prefer a booking you can retain and use. | Is cancellation refunded as money, and under what deadline and deductions? |
These are decision criteria, not interchangeable products. Match the document to the official requirement before comparing prices.
Work backwards from the document check
DummyTicket.com’s FAQ says ordinary reservation validity varies with airline, route and dates. It describes delivery normally within 6–24 hours and an effort to issue 1–2 days before a visa appointment. Those are merchant statements, not a guaranteed window for your booking.
Separate four dates in your planning: when you must upload documents, when you attend the appointment, when further evidence might be requested, and when you intend to fly. Ask the service which of these it can support. Issuing close to an appointment does not solve an earlier upload deadline; a reservation alive at submission does not establish that it will remain alive through an unspecified processing period.
Ask for the expiry date and time, including the time zone, rather than accepting a general description such as “valid for visa.” If the supplier cannot commit to the required window, compare another eligible reservation or an issued refundable fare. Do not buy repeated replacements merely to avoid asking what the authority actually needs.
Verify the booking before relying on it
- Check that the passenger details match your passport and that the route and dates match your genuine application plan.
- Use the named airline’s official booking tool with the correct airline locator and surname. Ask the supplier which locator to use if several references appear.
- Check every material segment, not just the first flight. If the requirement is an issued ticket, ask about ticket status as well as reservation visibility.
- Record the booking details and supplier correspondence privately. Recheck at the relevant submission stage.
- If retrieval fails, request an explanation and current booking confirmation. Do not substitute a seller’s screenshot for unresolved verification.
For an Emirates booking, its help page on missing reservations directs travel-agent customers back to the agent for reservation details. A failed lookup is a problem to resolve, rather than sufficient grounds on its own to label a booking genuine or fake.
Compare cash committed with money you might lose
Use two separate figures: the amount you must pay now, and the amount you could lose under the applicable cancellation rules. Add any confirmed service, change or payment charges. A smaller upfront payment can still be non-refundable; a larger refundable airfare can tie up funds you need elsewhere.
Under DummyTicket.com’s published cancellation terms, cancellation before processing is refundable, while cancellation after processing is not. Request the exact processing status before trying to cancel.
For applicable U.S. airline bookings, the Department of Transportation’s refund guidance describes a 24-hour hold-or-refund requirement when booked at least seven days before departure. Airlines need not offer both options, and the rule does not apply to third-party bookings. It is not a general promise that any ticket can be cancelled at any time.
A concrete direct-booking alternative is British Airways’ eligible flight hold, lasting up to 72 hours. Its terms restrict routes and bookings, including a 21-day advance-booking condition. Check eligibility and whether the hold document meets your checklist; BA does not certify it for your visa.
When a reservation service fits—and when to choose another route
Consider a reservation service when you have confirmed that a reservation is sufficient, the timing is workable and the supplier can answer verification questions. Prefer another option if paid transport is required, you need an immediately usable flight, or expiry and support arrangements remain unclear.
